Problem Statement
Summit (Client) releases about 6000 articles each season. To define prices & margin for each article is a crucial task. ‘Global Product Managers’ are required to set price and margin recommendations for articles(products) based on a variety of parameters. These recommendations are used as master data by the local product managers who can then manipulate based on their insights about their local market.
Currently this business process is done on a combination of tools.

Excel Files

Internal legacy application (20 years old)

Local simulation tools
The legacy tools are roughly 20 years old. Disconnected, outdated, not addressing the new business reality – E2E. Therefore, there was a need to build a tool where this End to End process could be executed by users which would drive efficiency in the long run.
That’s how ‘Price & Margin Management’ tool was envisioned.
The aim is to build a flexible and scalable application that enables users to efficiently manage their tasks with a seamless & reliable experience.

Anna Halbach
Global Product Manager at Summit
42 F · Moderately Skilled in Technology
Anna is a mid-senior level global product manager responsible for maintaining recommendations for the price structure, margin & price points for the countries under a market. She usually has 4 weeks time to define price and margin data for the current season. She wants to finish this task with accuracy as it impacts the sales, profit margins and revenue targets for the company.

To comprehend the feel and touchpoints throughout the experience from the user’s perspective, we mapped the user journey to gather insights.
User Journey Map
1
For users, maintaining records manually in MS excel is fast but prone to errors and inaccuracy. Also, updating & sharing of information is done offline at many parts of the process leading to delays and lack of access to real-time, accurate information.
2
In the legacy tool, one of the primary pain point for users had been to maintain individual records for each combination of attributes separately which meant a duplication of records resulting in large volume of similar records, thereby overwhelming the users.
3
The users find it painful to use the legacy application as it is extremely slow and has a UI with an inefficient navigation. They use it primarily to upload the excel of their data so that it can flow to downstream systems and can be used by other products.
4
The UI interface of the legacy tool hosts a plethora of functionalities based on business processes. However, the majority of users are using only a handful of functionalities that they need to use and view rest of the options in the UI as disabled.
Key Insights
Nested Row Creation
With a nested table structure, we managed to visually indicate the price range hierarchy within the data. This is expected to help users easily keep track of prices for a set of attributes more easily than rummaging through the data tables to find a record.

Critical Actions Handling
We helped product owners to introduce notifications and confirmation modals on the basis of criticality of an action. This would help users receive necessary feedback when the action is successful or requires additional input.

List View - Row Creation
We created an advanced list view to enable users to create new price points(records) and add them to their data table for the season. There were some business rules that were accommodated to keep data accuracy.

Dashboard
Dashboard enables users to easily navigate across multiple data tables that they need to maintain. Manage and track milestone dependant release functionality for each data table. Users are able to receive tangible metric in the form of KPIs and other crucial indicators.User specific dashboard based on roles & permissions. It gives a more broader picture of the tasks to the user and enables them to track progress.
